Unique fish pass in Laos

The Mekong River is almost 4500-kilometer long and one of the most important food sources for millions of people in the region. The construction of the new Xayaburi dam in Laos was met with resistance. Fishery being the main source of income for large parts of the population along the river, great concerns were raised that the dam would jeopardize their living.

In order to facilitate the migration of numerous fishes a special fish pass was built. In order to accurately measure the water level on these fish stairs and to ensure that there is always enough water for the fishes, a suitable solution was sought.

Rittmeyer AG was awarded the contract for this project because the Rittmeyer solution was able to meet the desired high accuracy of these level measurements. In addition, the customer is convinced by the quality of the products due to the reference of the Nam Theun II project. Here, Rittmeyer was already able to supply the measuring system.

In the following video (created by the customer) you get an insight how such a fish stairs works.

Further information about the project and the fish stairs are available here.
